sherrilina: (Punky and Petie (my birds))
First off, the last TVD epp gave me a lot of ~feelings:

There's a whole world out there waiting for you )

I also wanted to congratulate my bb Nina Dobrev for winning the PCA for Best Drama Actress as the first write-in candidate ever--girl sure deserved the recognition, she has mad talent and was much better than the other candidates she was up against aside from Emily Deschanel perhaps (how exactly does someone like Blake Lively get these kinds of nods, seriously?). So glad about that, though still pissed at CBS's lame snubs of SPN (might as well get another use out of my "cbs sucks" tag, lol).

Last night I actually ended up watching Bones live on the air for the first time in god, IDEK, maybe since the season 3 finale in 2008? I think so actually...it's a long story (I was taping TVD though). LOLing as always at the unrealistic fake!Smithsonian stuff but okay epp overall--I was a bit confused about the end though...

Quick Bones question for those who watched this epp )

Since I've also expanded my icon collection and fandoms a lot since I last did it, I decided to do this Icon Meme again as well.  I made a deliberate effort to use different icons from last time where possible, which affected some of my selections:

MAH ICONS 2.0 )

I also finally saw Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy last Sunday, good stuff, and so many big British actors, lol. In that respect I particularly enjoyed seeing Edith's little cameo. ;) So many movies I want to see right now though, god, like 7, IDK how I'll manage them all....

And here is an adorable picture of my birdie Punky sleeping for your time:

sherrilina: (Jeff/Britta (Community))
So I've spent the last few days marathoning Community like crazy and I'm finally all caught up! I loved it, only wish I discovered this gem earlier. My thoughts:

Me and Abed have an agreement. If one of us dies, we stage it to look like a suicide caused by the unjust cancellation of Firefly... )

+ Today I also finally caught up on Once Upon a Time just in time for its return this Sunday! :) A few thoughts on this show as well...

No matter what you do, I will always find you )

+ For those of you who are Cesare/Lucrezia fans, there is a commentfic meme going on right now over at [livejournal.com profile] cesare_lucrezia, check it out!

+ This is random, but I also was stamped as Morgana in a recent [livejournal.com profile] merlin_land challenge, and feel honored! <3 ;) Still need to finish season 4 of Merlin...

+ I saw The Adventures of TinTin last night, and while visually stunning, it was one of the excruciatingly boring, interminable 2 hours of my life...:/ I think sadly it's one of those things you have to be a fan of already to really appreciate (unless you are a kid). Another Moffat gutter-ball for me.

sherrilina: (Adrian/Rose (Vampire Academy))
This past week had several important and noteworthy book-related events for me, namely 1) finishing Mockingjay at last, and then 2) finally seeing some exciting news about the plots and release dates of the final book in the Georgina Kincaid series (one of my all-time faves) AND about the forthcoming VA spinoff series (which I've been dying to know about since finishing The Last Sacrifice last December)!

First, let's talk about the Richelle Mead-related stuff, beginning with the VA spinoff news...(which I took the liberty of finally getting myself an Adrian/Rose icon for, since I now have the space and a D/R icon just isn't appropriate for this post! ;)):

Spoilers for new series and VA #6: The Last Sacrifice )

And then, after squeeing about having that summer blockbuster book to look forward to, I suddenly notice that the final Georgina Kincaid novel, apparently called Succubus Revealed, is coming out exactly one week later on August 30!!! (Or who knows, maybe it will come out earlier than that, with this series they often do show up early in bookstores). \o/ <333 I can't even...it's going to sure be a summer (or rather, month?) of Richelle Mead! :p I kind of wish that these two big summer releases were spaced out a little further apart in the summer, but on the other hand I'm going to have more free time in August than earlier to read them, so maybe it's just as well...I'll have to read the first one pretty fast to make sure I'm done in time for the GK novel! ;)

The book description for the GK book is also now on the website and quite interesting...

Cover and Description for GK#6, spoilers for #5 )

Also I must as always take a moment to pimp both of these series, but especially the Georgina Kincaid series, starting with Succubus Blues, (since fewer people I know read it, lol), to anyone who loves supernatural/urban paranormal stuff...they are SO entertaining and funny/witty (the best of Secret Diary of a Call Girl or Buffy, what have you in terms of biting wit), but also have a fascinating supernatural verse and memorable cast of characters (which for instance an OCD Martha Stewart-wannabe vampire and an Archdemon boss who is a secret John Cusack fan and drinking buddies with the area's Archangel that he used to know before he fell from grace and became a demon and all--such a cute bromance, lol), and some really compelling drama and well-written romance all at the same time. I don't know if I've ever enjoyed a book series as much as I've enjoyed reading many of the books in this one.

And then there's Mockingjay...O_o  Big Spoilers Ahoy!

You love me. Real or not real? )

I remember reading a F!S a while back (when I still read them, lol) that claimed THG was just like Animorphs--which is a ridiculous claim, but I admit that with this comparison on the mind as I finished this book, I did see several parallels between both series in terms of events, themes, moral quandaries, gritty realism, etc--all of which just show why both series are memorable and a cut above the average YA series:

Brief meta about The Hunger Games and Animorphs, MAJOR spoilers for Mockingjay and The Beginning (#54)!  )

Speaking of The Hunger Games, while I was going to reserve judgment on the movie even with the questionable actors cast in the male roles (I only know JH from playing the evil douchey Steve in the Cirque du Freak movie, hard to imagine Peeta from that role, lol), the new spoilers about the script and what has been changed are making me begin to actually think this movie will be terrible, the script sounds in parts like a badly written fanfic...:/  Anyone else see them?

And lol, since beginning this post I now see that the next Sookie Stackhouse novel is also coming out soon at the beginning of May and has a description out?  O_o  Just book news galore this week...

sherrilina: (Lord Asriel/Marisa (Golden Compass))
This meme has recently been going around some parts of my flist, and dedicated/hopeless shipper that I am, obviously I couldn't resist! ;)  Just vote in the poll for the ships of mine that you also like.  Since I have a ridiculous number of things I ship I tried to limit this list to pairings I feel/felt more passionate/strongly about, though the list still ended up being way too long, lol.[Poll #1673927]

Brownie points to anyone who gets the more obscure literary ones! ;)  Also note the high volume of d00med!ships in this list, lol...

sherrilina: (Arthur and Morgaine (Mists of Avalon))
Okay I need to take a moment to squee about all the delicious new promo material for the upcoming dramas The Borgias and Camelot, especially regarding the pairings of Lucrezia/Cesare and Arthur/Morgan respectively.

First of all, though we still don't know to what extent their relationship will be romantic, from the clips and pictures and interviews it certainly seems like Arthur/Morgan will be intense and epic and important, which is just how I like it! :)

'The relationship between Arthur and Morgan and their dual desire for the throne is the key spine of the series.' )

Then there's the fact that The Borgias (which has an even more epic trailer than Camelot's) seems to be pushing the incestuous Lucrezia/Cesare relationship as the epic romance of the series, which is pretty bold and amazing and pleases the d00med!shipper in me very much, lol! ;)  As a long-time Arthur/Morgan(a) shipper I'm used to shipping incest/half-siblings anyway, lol, it doesn't phase me, and from the trailers and pictures it looks like a really gripping and compelling/touching forbidden romance, full of chemistry....I haven't even seen the show yet, and I'm already shipping it SO hard! :p <333 Here's a mini-spam of the shippy promo pics we have so far...

Taking 'brotherly love' a little too far... )

Also I like the look of Cesare so far, he seems sympathetic and really hot.  And of course there's Pope Jeremy Irons, can't go wrong there...I could listen to that voice all day! :)

Anyway, can't wait for these shows to come out!  I remember being so excited when when I first heard about Camelot, and it's good to see it doesn't look disappointing so far....though god, more TV in the spring, lol, at this rate I'll be swamped! :p

In other news I bought my first lottery tickets ever, lol, since the Mega Millions is up to $355 million today, so might as well!  The draw is at 11 pm, lol, we'll see...

EDIT: While looking for the The Borgias trailer to rewatch I also found one for a Spanish movie called Los Borgia in 2006 starring Lluís Homar as Rodrigo Borgia and Paz Vega, which I clearly need to watch now! :D

EDIT 2: Now I've also realized that the icon I used here is even more appropriate than I thought, since the actress playing Young!Morgaine seen there is apparently the same one playing Guinevere now, all grown up!  Another reason to be excited for Camelot...:D  I did love her in MoA, and lol how ironic to go from playing Morgan to Guinevere...

Hope has a warrior )

In other news I finally saw "Toy Story 3" this afternoon!  (Thank goodness it was still around in theaters...).  That just leaves "The Girl Who Played with Fire" before I've seen all the movies on my summer release list....
sherrilina: (Jacob/Bella (Twilight))
So I saw Eclipse at midnight with [livejournal.com profile] beaksy13 , as I said earlier, and as I hoped there was a fun crowd there, as far as audience reaction—especially since they cheered by far the most and the loudest for Jacob and the J/B bits, which obviously I approved of! ;) xD  Here are my thoughts on the movie....

Edward liked it, so he put a really ugly sparkletastic ring on it! )

Before the movie though there was an awesome new trailer for both parts of the last HP movie (though admittedly it would have been more awesome had it shown the usual H/Hr moments, along with all the R/Hr and H/G it was showing! :( ). Still so many months away though...
sherrilina: (Booth/Brennan (Bones))
So I finally caught up on the last few episodes of Bones season 5. Here are my thoughts…

Spoilers for episodes 5x17 - 5x22 )

In other news, tonight I will be seeing Eclipse at midnight with [livejournal.com profile] beaksy13 . Hopefully it will be a good crowd that laughs and catcalls at all the right (ie wrong) moments! :p

Also woot for España's victory over Portugal and advancement to the Quarter Finals in the World Cup today! xD I hope they can make it even further....this is the first time I have ever gotten remotely invested in the World Cup, or followed games and such, I'm learning so much...

Movie Meme

Apr. 30th, 2010 10:52 pm
sherrilina: (Jack/Elizabeth (POTC))
Today is Meme Day I guess, I also saw this one, and I couldn't resist, being the HUGE movie buff that I am! :)

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] oso_intricate , how surprising she'd come up with this one! :p

1. Pick 15 of your favourite movies
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie. (Okay I admit I didn't use IMDB for all of them)
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Fill in the film title once it's guessed.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions!

15 of my favorite movies, in quote form.... )

Another fun exercise, especially thinking of what 15 of my favorite movies are....:)

EDIT: SInce it's unlikely the last few will be guessed, I went ahead and put the answers there anyway, for your education! ;) 10/15 is still good though!
sherrilina: (Eric (True Blood))
So I am getting really excited now about the "Cirque du Freak" The Vampire's Assistant" movie after seeing the eight clips that were recently released and this very positive review of the movie. I mean, I loved the books when I read them way back when (although this reminds me that I still never finished the final book of the series, will need to get onto that maybe over break!), but initially I was very wary about a movie adaptation, especially given recent examples like "Ella Enchanted" or *shudder* "The Dark is Rising." The trailer gave me mixed feelings, and still made me feel hesitant....but seeing the clips and the review now makes me feel better and better about it (they countered some misleading parts of the trailer), and I'm actually now really excited for October 23! :D So it's a big release to look forward to this month, before NM....

Although there are still a few changes that I find a little weird, like Mild movie and book spoilers )

In any case, it's looking good right now, and I hope it lives up to the promise of the clips and this review. John C. Reilly and Salma Hayek at least seem to be a riot in their roles! :)  And the score seems decent from the website....

sherrilina: (Harry/Hermione (HP))
Well I've now seen the latest HP movie twice (once the evening of the day it came out, a few Weds ago, and a second time last Friday night), and against all odds, despite loathing the book that it's based on, I really enjoyed the movie! I remember remarking after OOTP (the best movie to date then, and perhaps now, not quite sure how I rank HBP yet in comparison) that if anyone could make a decent movie out of the weakest, cheesiest, and dullest volume of the series it was Yates, and I proved myself right--he is absolutely brilliant, improving upon the book in almost every way and taking a book in which not a whole lot happens and making it actually interesting and entertaining!

More spoilery comments on the movie below....

Alan Rickman is a Sexy Beast and since when did the Weasleys move to the middle of a cornfield? )

Also in other news I finally read and finished (in two days) Jacqueline Carey's (first) new release, Santa Olivia, the one in a new verse and genre. It was very good and a fast read, I was glad that Carey remains an author who never disappoints! :) Perhaps a more detailed review will follow if I feel up to it.....I still also have to read JC's other new release, Naamah's Kiss, the beginning of a new series set in the Kushiel verse many generations later. Right now I'm finishing up From Dead to Worse (#8 Sookie Stackhouse series), soon I'll be all caught up on that front!
sherrilina: (Jacob/Bella (Twilight))
[Error: unknown template qotd]
It was actually Star Trek, which I saw a couple of weeks ago.  I had heard endlessly about how amazing it was, but even so I was surprised by well, how AMAZING it was! xD  I thoroughly enjoyed it, I'm so glad I went and saw it after all!  (I admit that I hadn't had much interest in seeing it despite the great reviews).  I hope they make more movies like this....it almost makes me want to watch the actual series!  Also I loved the cast, Kirk and Spock provided quite the eye candy and I loved seeing Sean of Sean of the Dead and Harold from Harold and Kumar!  I really do love Simon Pegg, and had had no idea he was in this, so it was a great surprise.

And speaking of movies:  Can I just say how much more excited I am about the NM movie with these sexy, very J/B (yay!)-centric posters coming out? ;)  If it's even half as good as such posters promise it to be I will be very happy indeed....though I'm still worried, since NM is my fave book (and the J/B handbook practically), and it's Chris Weitz at the helm, whom I don't trust after "The Golden Compass", so we'll see....

Also the HBP movie is looming ahead....I hope that it's as good as the previews make it seem to be, though all the comments I've read from the people involved saying that the movie is going to stress the "romantic comedy" parts of the book (ie 'Sweet Valley Hogwarts', the weakest and cheesiest part for me) makes me doubt a little....

As for "Little Ashes" I never got the chance to see it, it disappeared too quickly!  Ah well, I suppose that's one to Netflix sometime....this way I can watch it dubbed without R!Pattz's awful accent...
sherrilina: (RPattz and KStew (Twilight actors))

I noticed today that the movie "Little Ashes" (or "Sin limites" for its Spanish title) is coming out this week here, and the more I've looked into it online, the more utterly excited I am to see it!  And it's not just because R!Pattz is going to be in it, playing Salvador Dali (which is the most lolarious, cracktastic and random role I could ever imagine him in!) and having a romance with another man. ;)  I was just thinking a couple of months ago how much I'd like a movie about the great poet (and unofficial Spanish gay matyr) Federico Garcia Lorca, especially that shows his tragic murder in the beginning of the Spanish Civil War (another topic that, as I've said before, I'm extremely interested in, especially in film).  And from the look of the trailer and the reviews, it looks like the movie will be focusing above all on Garcia Lorca, and including the Spanish Civil War--and furthermore Javier Beltran looks amazing as Garcia Lorca, so much like the actual guy, and according to reviews he gives a top-notch performance as well!  The only drawback seems to be the terrible accents (especially on R!Pattz's part, I love him but his Spanish accent sucks!), but that should be taken care of by seeing it dubbed in Spanish here--the language it really should be in anyway!

So yeah, I hope to see this movie in the next few days, and can't wait! :)  Never mind that I have so much work to do that I really don't have time to be seeing movies...:p

Just look at R!Pattz in that ridiculous moustache too! xD http://www.imdb.com/media/rm524194816/tt1104083

http://www.sensacine.com/film/galeri...lm=138229.html (more ridiculous-looking here!)

sherrilina: (Harry/Hermione (HP))
[Error: unknown template qotd]Hard to say....I've only seen three of the five nominees this year (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Reader (sadly dubbed), and Slumdog Millionaire), and all three were great.  I think it'd be between Benjamin Button--which I absolutely adored for its emotion, drama, humor, incredible special effects, historical settings, excellent acting, romantic and beautiful love story, and epic scale--and Slumdog Millionaire--which likewise had quite a beautiful love story (you can see the shipper in me coming out, lol), lots of emotion, drama, humor and excellent acting, as well as and interesting peek into life in the slums of India--it's incredible to think of all that still happening in modern times to me....I think either of those two deserves to win (and I know that Slumdog probably will based on what it's already won, and it'd be nice if it did based on its content and such), and would be happy if either did, though I think I might like BB ever so slightly more--it affected me more at the very least.  In any case, this is not like last year's Oscars where there was one clear deserved winner for BP--"There Will Be Blood"....

Man, am I sad and disappointed that I won't be able to see The Oscars this year--the television highlight of the year for me, my own Super Bowl (I don't give a damn about the real one), something I always look forward to all year, and which I have made a point to assiduously prepare for the last few years, seeing as many of the nominated movies as possible (I even made a point to see as many Oscar entries in the foreign film category this year as possible before there were even nominees or a shortlist), even this year when I won't even be able to see the ceremony live.  It's always a better experience when you've seen/are familiar with the movies up for awards, and when you can truly express an opinion about them all....The last two years I successfully saw all of the BP nods, and 3/5 is still decent this year, especially considering how late many of the movies that came out ages ago in the US came out here.

Anyway, I think I will follow cleolinda's live blog this year and track my picks and what is happening that way, since she's always such fun to read (though sadly reading her blog will be no substitute for seeing the eye candy that is Hugh Jackman, lol), and I'll probably hunt for clips and such tomorrow...I may ask someone in the US to tape it for me and watch it sometime over the summer.  At least I was able to get a minor fix for watching this kind of thing when I saw the Goyas (the Spanish version of the Oscars--they try hard, they really do, and it's kind of funny for it, but they end up failing to be as good as the Oscars--they are like a lamer version of the Oscars, though there were definitely some good Spanish movies up for awards...) in early February.

Oscar Whore that I am, I have many opinions/thoughts about other categories as well (almost all categories are important in my eyes), which I'll share here now:

My Oscar Predictions and Picks )My Oscar Predictions and Picks )My Oscar Predictions and Picks )

In any case, we'll see!  (Me after the fact, unfortunately!)  Only what, a little over an hour now until the red carpet?

sherrilina: (Jacob/Bella (Twilight))
So I posted this already on the relevant communities, but I haven't posted it here yet--so here goes.  This was the first fanmix that I completed, though the J/C one is the first one I ever started (I'll shortly post that after this, since it's too much two put two mixes in one post).  Comments are love! :)  And please excuse my lack of fanart skillz, it's er, the thought that counts, no? :p
