sherrilina: (Punky and Petie (my birds))
First off, the last TVD epp gave me a lot of ~feelings:

There's a whole world out there waiting for you )

I also wanted to congratulate my bb Nina Dobrev for winning the PCA for Best Drama Actress as the first write-in candidate ever--girl sure deserved the recognition, she has mad talent and was much better than the other candidates she was up against aside from Emily Deschanel perhaps (how exactly does someone like Blake Lively get these kinds of nods, seriously?). So glad about that, though still pissed at CBS's lame snubs of SPN (might as well get another use out of my "cbs sucks" tag, lol).

Last night I actually ended up watching Bones live on the air for the first time in god, IDEK, maybe since the season 3 finale in 2008? I think so's a long story (I was taping TVD though). LOLing as always at the unrealistic fake!Smithsonian stuff but okay epp overall--I was a bit confused about the end though...

Quick Bones question for those who watched this epp )

Since I've also expanded my icon collection and fandoms a lot since I last did it, I decided to do this Icon Meme again as well.  I made a deliberate effort to use different icons from last time where possible, which affected some of my selections:

I also finally saw Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy last Sunday, good stuff, and so many big British actors, lol. In that respect I particularly enjoyed seeing Edith's little cameo. ;) So many movies I want to see right now though, god, like 7, IDK how I'll manage them all....

And here is an adorable picture of my birdie Punky sleeping for your time:

sherrilina: (Doomsday Ten/Rose)
So I snagged this meme from [ profile] emo_dj_steph AGES ago, and have been working on it forever (which has been interesting since the ships have really moved around and changed over time--Caroline/Tyler appeared on the first list then moved to the second list then moved back up to the first list in the space of me starting and finishing this meme, Cesare/Lucrezia appeared on the first list then disappeared then appeared again, Dan/Blair made a brief appearance on the first list and Chuck/Blair appeared on the second list, etc), since any meme that requires more effort than bolding or ticky apparently takes me forever to complete...*facepalm* Also some of these questions were tricky for me, like "Ships you're curious about but don't ship", since everything I'm really curious about/interested in I tend to ship! But tonight for some reason I felt in the mood to finish this once and for all (and have stayed up far too late doing so, ugh, priorities, I need them), so here it is!

Major spoilers for s3 Being Human, s2 DW, and s2 Merlin, minor spoilers for Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, and The Borgias:

Ships that I do and do not ship... )

And while I'm at it, here's a Character Meme as well!  Pick any character from a fandom of mine and I'll answer the following questions:

    1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.
    2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
    3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?
    4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
    5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
    6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
    7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her?
    8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
    9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?
    10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?</em>

(Of course it might take me a while, erm, but it will happen, lol! ;))

sherrilina: (Mitch/Annie (Being Human))
Man am I loving Being Human right now! <3333  It's so nice to be so excited about and pleased by the show, after all the disappointment last season....

So first of all, here is my spoilery reaction to 3x03, which I only saw the second half of because of stream issues, but whatever, it was great to see it live, and I loved what I saw...

Do you forgive me? )

And then here are my thoughts on 3x02, lol, since I was very fail in posting this week, oops! O_o

Who wants some of my plant?! )

I also have been continuing to watch the US remake of BH, since it did get sooo much more tolerable/better in the second episode...

A few quick US BH remake thoughts 1x02-1x03 )

Oh and on another note of squee and glory and good news, they're FINALLY releasing a Being Human OST for seasons 1 and 2--about damn time!!!! :D  You can already buy and dl the mp3 here (though I hope it comes to iTunes US soon).  I still wish they could include the Epic Music of Epicness from 3x01, but I'm happy I'll finally be able to get my hands on "A Wonderful Thing", aka the awesome recap music this season. (I've been listening to the preview a lot since I found this, lol).

sherrilina: (Eric (True Blood))
Well it was certainly better than last season's uber fail of a finale, but I still wasn't overly impressed...

My armadillo Felix is good... )

It's good TB has now ended for the season, considering all my shows that are now starting up for the fall season!  Also, against my better judgment, I just joined [ profile] audiopineapple's latest land comm, [ profile] bbcland, since I've managed to already get myself hooked on 3 BBC shows with more to come.  We'll have to see how it goes...:p

Also, I know everyone else is saying it too, but please don't cross-post any content from my journal to Facebook or Twitter...hopefully LJ will get rid of this stupid and invasive feature soon, but until then...:(
sherrilina: (Eric (True Blood))
So I am getting really excited now about the "Cirque du Freak" The Vampire's Assistant" movie after seeing the eight clips that were recently released and this very positive review of the movie. I mean, I loved the books when I read them way back when (although this reminds me that I still never finished the final book of the series, will need to get onto that maybe over break!), but initially I was very wary about a movie adaptation, especially given recent examples like "Ella Enchanted" or *shudder* "The Dark is Rising." The trailer gave me mixed feelings, and still made me feel hesitant....but seeing the clips and the review now makes me feel better and better about it (they countered some misleading parts of the trailer), and I'm actually now really excited for October 23! :D So it's a big release to look forward to this month, before NM....

Although there are still a few changes that I find a little weird, like Mild movie and book spoilers )

In any case, it's looking good right now, and I hope it lives up to the promise of the clips and this review. John C. Reilly and Salma Hayek at least seem to be a riot in their roles! :)  And the score seems decent from the website....

sherrilina: (Rose/Dimitri (Vampire Academy))
Well summer officially ended last Tuesday, and so I suppose it's time to make my end-of-summer-reading post. Overall I read a decent amount, and got most of the main books on my personal summer reading list read, with the exception of Jacqueline Carey's Naamah's Kiss, of which I still have about 75 pages to go, unfortunately.....I intended this to be the summer of Jacqueline Carey and Richelle Mead, my two favorite authors at the moment, because I was reading more than one book by each author this summer, but my reading list got unexpectedly hijacked by Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire or Sookie Stackhouse series, all 9 of which I also ended up reading this summer, while I also caught up with season 1 of TB and watched all of season 2--so one could say that this past summer was the "Summer of Sookie," just as I've dubbed some past summers as "The Summer of Buffy" (when I watched Buffy seasons 1-5 for the first time) or "The Summer of Harry Potter" (when both the 7th book and the 5th movie came out within a few weeks of each other and I got into FictionAlleyPark)! ;) Or, given the vampiric nature of the majority of the books I read by Richelle Mead, my viewing of the British series "Being Human" for the first time, and all the NM trailers and news, perhaps it could just be summed up as "The Summer of Vampires", period. :p

My Summer Reading List 2009 )

I'm not sure when I'll be able to finish that book or City of Bones, since I'm so busy now....but yeah, I decided to check out The Mortal Instruments series as well, checking out the first book from the library, since I have heard so much about it on BF and around fandom....I'm halfway through the first book and it's gotten better, and is certainly intriguing, although I'm not fond of the overly-descriptive and flowery writing style, and think that it is definitely "inspired" by Harry Potter (which of course we all *know* Clare has read!). I still can't get over the fact that an infamous fanfic author and BNF like her is now actually writing published original fiction...

But back to Vampire Academy: It took me a little while to get into the first book, but once I did I was hooked, and it was quite an exciting read....I love that I was actually shocked by *two* plot twists at the end, it's nice to have unpredictability like that in a novel these days, especially a YA one! And the rest of the series has gotten progressively better with each book, with the latest two books, SK and BP being particularly fantastic and epic. I actually think I liked the fourth VA book better than the fourth GK book in fact, which is pretty significant since overall I have so far enjoyed and liked the GK series better than the VA books, even though the VA series is great as well! I would highly recommend it, don't judge it by its cheesy-sounding name, it's very a very smart and interesting series, with some memorable characters, just like GK. My favorites are Adrian, Christian, and Dimitri (in that order); I did not like Rose at first, but she has now grown on me....

Spoilery Review of Blood Promise )

Oh and I was also lucky enough to actually get to see Richelle Mead in person at a signing a few weeks ago on September 9!!! It was wonderful to be able to meet her in person (especially after having met my other fave author, Carey, a couple of years ago), and to get books signed by her (I got GK 1 and 3 and VA, SK and BP signed, with BP personalized). I may get around to loading pictures and more someday....

Got Eric?

Well I haven't been writing any recaps or reviews so far of TB epps, but the last episode (which I only just got the chance to watch tonight) was so fantastic and amazing that I just had to post about it! xD It is definitely my favorite episode of the season by far, and perhaps of the series....

Spoilery review for 2x08 and 2x09 promo below:

Trust me )

On another note last week I finally finished "Dead and Gone", meaning that I am at last completely caught up in the Southern Vampire/Sookie Stackhouse novels! It's good to not have to worry about spoilers anymore, though on the other hand I can't believe I have to wait until MAY for the next one! (May is also when the next Georgina Kincaid book is coming out, so that should be an exciting reading month for me). Summer is almost over, and I still have to finish the VA book (at least I've begun to get into it more now and am making more progress!) and read Naamah's Kiss before summer is over....
sherrilina: (Eric (True Blood))
[Error: unknown template qotd]Well a little while ago I would have said nobody, but since reading Charlaine Harris's vampire books and watching True Blood the answer is unequivocably Eric Northman from those series, the sexiest, greatest vampire of them all, hands down! ;)  Also since in this 'verse the bite wouldn't be to kill or to turn (neither of which I'd want, obviously), but rather is something sexual usually, all the better to receive a bite from him! :p

sherrilina: (Mick/Beth (Moonlight))
[Error: unknown template qotd]Oh TV couples--one of my favorite topics, and definitely a question that I remember coming up here before in these WB things....well of the three couples listed in the question, my favorite it definitely Chuck/Blair (the only one I have seen also, to be fair), though they are not my overall favorite TV couple (especially given all the crap the writers pull out at times).  I think I'll still stand by my previous answer, and say that Cordy/Angel from Angel is my all-time favorite TV couple, but there are a LOT of contenders.  For instance there's Arthur/Morgana from Merlin, the "duo" that I'm currently celebrating in my banner and default icon, Lily/Rufus (also from Gossip Girl), Booth/Brennan from Bones (in their best moments, I haven't been so happy with what the writers have been doing with them at times), and Mick/Beth from Moonlight (icon), whose greatness as a couple I have recently fully remembered thanks to my ML marathon last weekend--these two in particular are just so well-matched, and their interactions are two adorable and filled with chemistry.  I'm SO glad that the writers played it safe and gave them a happy ending in the season finale so that when it turned into the series finale thanks to CBS's immense suckage and idiocy the series ended on a good note (I would have wanted to kill the writers if they had ended things badly between M/B!)
sherrilina: (Eric (True Blood))
And so yet another obsession has struck--the HBO series True Blood and the Southern Vampire/Sookie Stackhouse novels that spawned it! I have to say, I was originally not very impressed with the TV show when I watched the first couple of episodes last fall, but I decided to give the show another chance, and I'm very glad I did!  I have now marathoned up to the present and am watching it from week to week (SO disappointed there was no new episode this week!), and the days cannot go by fast enough until the next episode for's so fun to be excited about a new show.  To get more faster, and to see more of Eric (of whom I have heard so much, and who I already love just from the show!) I began reading the books, which are also great (once you get a few chapters into the first book at least--I had a similar experience as when I watched the show as far as not being impressed at first and then loving it)--I've finally begun the second book, "Living Dead in Dallas" ("To Live and To Die in Dallas" in Spanish if anyone's curious--I remember seeing a copy in the bookstore when I was there), aka season 2 of TB, though the show has indeed been deviating a lot from this book even more so than the last book--but mostly in a good way IMO!

So in short I now love True Blood, and Eric, and can tell already that I will be shipping Eric/Sookie! ;)  I'm happy that he'll be in every episode of season 2....

This new craze has reawakened my love for vampires as well--this past weekend when a friend was visiting I marathoned through all of Moonlight with her, and was also reminded of what a fantastic show that was, and what an adorable adn awesome pair Mick/Beth were.  It still makes me feel depressed every time I think of the wasted potential there, thanks to stupid CBS....

sherrilina: (Sidonie on Kushiel's Mercy cover)
So on Tuesday I finally got my hands on the latest book in the Georgina Kincaid series by Richelle Mead, Succubus Heat, and as usual sped through it in record time, finishing it yesterday afternoon!  For the most part it met my expectations of what I hoped would happen and was about as utterly entertaining and enjoyable to read as the rest, though naturally a little more serious than the others before it.  There were a few surprises for me though....

My (long) thoughts on Book 4, as well as Book 3, since I never got around to posting them here:

Spoilers for Succubus Heat (GA bk 4), Succubus Dreams (bk 3), and my own speculations about future books )

In any case, this marks the first big release on my summer reading list that I've read!

I am also about 100 pages into Vampire Academy, the first book in another of Mead's series which I've been meaning to read for a while since I love the GA books so much!  I decided to read it in Spanish, so that i could be practicing my Spanish at the same time as reading a book I've wanted to read this summer anyway.  It's a very interesting experience, and for the most part I can understand and keep up with it just fine.  It will be strange reading the rest of the books in English though after this!

While buying Succubus Heat the other day I also picked up the latest release from Jacqueline Carey (another favorite author of mine as mentioned here previously), Santa Olivia, a cool futuristic sci-fi-ish novel that kind of a take on the superhero genre apparently--I can't wait to read that soon as well, not to mention the first book in Carey's new Naamah series set generations later in the same verse as the Kushiel series, Naamah's Kiss, coming out later this month--between these two big releases, SH, and catching up on all the VA books this really will be the summer of Jacqueline Carey and Richelle Mead for me!

sherrilina: (Mick/Beth (Moonlight))
Go to your Calendar and find the first entry for each month of 2008. Post the first line of it in your journal, and that's your "Year In Review".

I got this idea from [ profile] vltavska seemed nifty, so I tried it out, though unfortunately I´m missing 3 months because I didn´t post in them--I was very sporadic at first, and too busy squeeing over the new Artemis Fowl book (grr, still need to post my review here for that!) and preparing for BD to write anything in July I here goes!  For ones where the first line doesn´t make sense unless you see the title, I posted that as well in brackets...with my comments from now as well.

This was an interesting exercise, hopefully next year I´ll be able to do it for every month!

Tudors, Moonlight, Kushiel´s Mercy, Artemis Fowl, Breaking Dawn, and Gossip Girl ahoy! )

sherrilina: (Jacob/Bella (Twilight))
Well I don't actually have writer's block (I specifically came on to post about something else--which I will precede to do after this!), but I couldn't resist this question....

[Error: unknown template qotd] It depends--in general I think I find vampires more interesting (though werewolves are still awesome as well, as long as they become full wolves and not lame wolfman-looking things--think Oz on Buffy! :P), but if we're talking about the Twilight-verse it's *definitely* WEREWOLVES--the vampires there are just lame and annoying, but the La Push gang and Jacob rock! :D

When I was younger though I did like werewolves a lot more, because I wanted to turn into animals and stuff (why do you think I was an Animorphs fan? ;)).  I specifically remember being blase about Barnabus on "Dark Shadows" for example in the few glimpses of the show I got, while I was very interested in Quentin *because* he was a werewolf.  And there are some cool werewold stories out there like "Blood and Chocolate" by Annette Curtis Klause, or "Bitten" and "Stolen" (and I would assume "Broken," though I haven't had the chance to read it yet!) of the awesome "Women of the Otherworld" series....and if it was which I'd rather be, I'd definitely prefer being a werewolf!  But these days I think I prefer vampires in all really depends on the universe and the story though.  It seems that in most cases either vampires or werewolves are cooler/better done and developed, except perhaps for "Underworld" (but even then the werewolves were like street thugs, and much less awesome than the vamps).

Can anyone think of a book/movie/TV show though where one of the other wasn't lamer?  I mean, even in the "Women of the Otherworld" series I think the vampires are a little weak, or not as interesting, while on Buffy the werewolves are the lamest costume of any of the demons! And so on....
