sherrilina: (Sam and Cas (Supernatural))
[personal profile] sherrilina
So as many of you know, this past weekend I had the privilege of attending BosCon (a Supernatural Convention) along with [livejournal.com profile] queen_insane and [livejournal.com profile] emo_dj_steph (whom I greatly enjoyed meeting with in person at last!), and it was AMAZING! :D  I'm so thankful that I had this opportunity to finally go to one of these things while the show was still ongoing (yay season 7!), and to see Jared and Misha there together (even if Jensen wasn't there)--those two are so ridiculously hilarious and adorable, I could just watch them all day, their panels are far too short!  (If I were to ever go to a Con in the future, unlikely as that is, I might just go to their day, definitely the best part).  And gah, they definitely did not disappoint me in the Mishalecki Hijinks department during their panel, I got all I had wanted to see and more. ;)

But everyone else was great too, I really enjoyed seeing and hearing from Alona Tal, Richard Spreight, Jr, Matt Cohen, Traci Dinwiddle, and Chad Lindberg!  It was just unreal to see all of these people in person...and even more so now seeing clips and gifs of it around Tumblr and being able to think, "I was actually there, I saw this live!" :D

Anyway, below is my full experience during the con, along with some highlights of the many, many photos and videos I took during it (which are mainly to blame for my delay in doing this post, as well as for why I had to break it up into multiple posts), if anyone is interested:

I got to Boston early Friday morning  via a long-ass, uncomfortable 9+ hour overnight bus ride (totally worth it though, price-wise), and went over to [livejournal.com profile] poor_choices ' house to hang out/shower (since I didn't want to show up at the Con all gross from the bus) before heading over to the hotel for the Con (it was fun chatting and seeing her adorable cats!   She went to the Con on Sat-Sun, I ran into her at least once in the vendors room).  And luckily it was all on the same T line, so it was pretty convenient/easy getting around).

The first panel was Chad Lindberg (aka Ash) at 2 pm, who actually seemed a LOT like his character Ash IRL, lol, albeit toned down of course.

Discussing his audition for the role of Ash:

My favorite part of his panel was when someone asked about which SN character Chad would have liked to work with, and he said Castiel, lol, saying "I think Cas and Ash would have an interesting time together"--I was glad [livejournal.com profile] queen_insane and [livejournal.com profile] emo_dj_steph were there, since they could appreciate the Treehaus reference! ;)  And then when Chad heard that Cas was the new "Big Bad" he exclaimed, "He is?! That BASTARD...I take back what I said earlier, I'm calling an official beef with Cas. Tell Misha later." The next fan asking a question happened to be a Cas cos-player, so they ended up having a mock fight, lol. He also said that "Dean and Sam are soulmates"...;)

Since we weren't interested in seeing Jason Manns (who is apparently a friend of the JJs or something, though we still were trying to figure out why he would have a panel and photo ops, lol) we wandered over to check out the vendors, where we saw a lot of interesting merchandise (including the fake Hellhound fetus that Misha later received as a "gift"--and a "unicorn fetus" that I feel would have been more ~appropriate for Misha).  My favorite t-shirt for sale there was this one:

Though the best t-shirt I saw worn by fans (and there were many interesting ones, from "Moose" Sam shirts to Misha's Minions ones) was one with this Hipster!Cas design, lmao, sold here apparently:

Anyway, I ended up coming back to the vendors several times during the convention between panels, and aside from photos for autographs (I didn't realize you had to provide your own/thought there would be a poster you could get, which there wasn't unfortunately--otherwise I would have at least brought one ~SASSY~ image from s5 for Jared and Misha to both sign, like the still in my icon perhaps), I picked up these two items of nerdy memorabilia by the end:

(A mug and a replica Samulet, lol, since they were inexpensive enough and I couldn't resist)

Finally around 5:00 pm Alona Tal (Jo) had her panel, and man is she adorable and fierce/sassy!  <3  She certainly had something to say about the life expectancy of women on the show and about being dead--she joked that the Supernatural writers were pissed that women naturally outlive men, so they wanted to redress that by killing off all the women on the show through unnatural means!  At one point she noted, "I'm a girl...we don't last [on the show]."  When someone asked why she had been gone for 2 seasons she said, "they had to try out other women before finding out I rock!"  And apparently she would sneak into Jared's trailer to visit with his dogs, awww.

I actually asked Alona a question about her experiences on Veronica Mars and her thoughts on her character's end, since I did love Meg and always felt like she got really effed over, which you can actually hear me asking/see her response here beginning @ 3:43! Boy did she seem to be choosing her words with care, lol, I especially loved her imitating the producers telling her about her fate, she sounded like my friend Malarie when she does imitations! :p

Anyway, you can watch her whole panel above, but here are a couple clips just highlighting what an incredibly adorkable and sweet person she is:

(^The fan had asked about what it was like to put all the fake blood and such on for 5x10 and Alona was like, "I was so excited, look here'as a pic on my phone showing how happy I was!" Such a dork...:D)

I also had NO idea she was originally from Israel!  (Or how to pronounce her name, I always thought it was like "Alanna", lol, and spent most of the convention continuing to inadvertently mispronounce it).  OH and when someone mentioned the alpaca in Jared's backyard in "The French Mistake" she smiled and said there was an inside joke there, which now I want to know!

Later during her autograph session (which we got a jump on because the Golds were doing Chad first and they wanted to give Alona something to do!) she recognized me, thinking we had done a photo op at first and then I said, "Veronica Mars question" and she remembered. I asked her about what she thought of Duncan with Meg/Veronica and she was like "blech...don't they call them 'donuts' or something?" lol.

[livejournal.com profile] queen_insane[livejournal.com profile] emo_dj_steph and I then returned to our room in the hotel and had some long, great fandom conversations about SN season 6/Castiel, Doctor Who, and Merlin among other things, so long that we then didn't have time to leave and get dinner outside of the hotel before Karaoke, so we went to the restaurant to try to find the cheapest thing on the menu--and while we were screwing around examining the menu at the front, Richard Speight, Jr, Alona, and Chad all walked by us and sat at a table together inside to eat!

Then at 10 pm there was the Karaoke Party, which was lots of fun--we didn't go onstage to sing anything, but we all sang a few times from the audience (esp. for stuff like "Carry On My Wayward Son" when they wanted everyone to sing), and the actors were fun to watch.  At one point Chad Lindberg stage-dived into the audience (Matt Cohen below to hold him up, lol), and at another point Matt threw a chair across the room! :p  Both Chad and Matt walked around in the audience dancing and trying to rev things up I guess, and at one point Matt grabbed my hands and danced with me for a few seconds!!! ^_^ Which was kind of cool...there was also a girl there who was only 15 but was an AMAZING singer, she seriously sang Evanescence songs as well as Amy Lee. I wonder if we'll see her on Idol in a few years...

For some reason my flash pictures of them turned out better than any others I took the whole weekend despite the greater darkness, maybe because I was closer? You can see Chad, Matt, Richard, and Alona on stage, where they also sang along with some of the songs/acted them out or danced. Alona especially did a funny job of this...

(At one point I realized that the characters of every actor on stage was dead on the show...O_o)

While Matt and Chad were dancing on chairs someone gave each a dollar stripper-style, lol.  Chad took it in stride and played along, but when someone did it to Matt he was totally dumbfounded, it was hilarious:

On Saturday the first panel was Traci Dinwiddle (aka Pamela Barnes) at 10:30 am, who was hard to recognize in her new pixie hairstyle.  She was really great though, such a warm and down-to-earth person, she wanted to go feed the ducks on the Charles River outside, lol.  (And I hear she did lead a group of fans outside to do so later).  She was also rather like her character IRL though toned down, just as in the case of Chad...she even completely believed in energies and spirits and other psychic stuff!  And the first thing she said after sitting down was confirm that "Yes, his [Jared's] ass...is bullet-proof." :p

(Traci having a ~moment while recalling squeezing Jared's ass, lol)

She also spoke a bit about her return in s5 and learning of her character's impending death during s4:

I actually ran into her in the bathroom after her panel and felt comfortable enough to begin chatting with her, she was so laid-back and approachable! :)

Then at 12:30 pm we saw Matt Cohen's (Young!John, Michael) panel, which was quite entertaining, he's such a sweet and personable guy...he gave out hugs to every person who asked a question, which decided it for me, lol, when I had been debating earlier.  On the downside though since I spent a lot of time waiting in line I didn't get any footage or photos of his "planking" and "owling", but oh well I still had a good view.  I had originally planned to ask about who would win in a fight, Godstiel or Michael (since he had been alluding jokingly to competition with Misha earlier), but then once I learned he didn't know anything about the end of s6 and heard that time was running out I just asked, "Lucifer vs. Michael, who would have won that fight?" to which he replied, "Depends on who's playing him!"

In fact he emphasized that Michael was his favorite role (over Young!John even), which made me happy since I loved his portrayal of Michael so much, and TBH thanks to Treehaus and [livejournal.com profile] ohyoudo I really associate Matt Cohen with Michael more than Young!John anyway, despite the latter having more screentime...;)

(Lol @ his impression of Misha especially, so true...)

He also talked a little about his experience on South of Nowhere, saying, "Those of you who know South of Nowhere, thanks for not booing me off the stage....my acting was SO bad in South of Nowhere!"

Other funny tidbits: he played a member of the Lollipop guild in a middle school play and used to think "ACDC" was a new type of air-conditioning he hadn't heard anything about. :p And he joked about John coming back as a centuar, going, "Things have changed, boys..."

Immediately following Matt's panel was the Costume Competition, which had several interesting entries that I enjoyed (I do love seeing a well done and nerdy costume):

From Left to Right: Cas, Eve, Impala, Jefferson Starship, Pudding!Dean, Cas, Fate, Cas, Jessica, Ellen, Jo, Dean, Woman in  White, Dean, Impala, Cas)

As you can see, lots of Castiels, lol.  Other favorites of mine not seen here were a Crossroads Demon (she actually had red contacts in, jeesh) and a Meg 1.0 (I recognized her by the hoodie and jacket and hair from the back at least).  This group blow entered together and won, and they were collectively the best I think, though the "Jo" had a better costume on Friday with the apron and such Jo wore in her first appearance.  "Fate" also had a good Anna costume she also wore the rest of the time...

Later that day I saw the Dean and the Cas of this group just sitting together chatting (the Dean also had another costume with the leather jacket, these people had some dedication!) and it kind of amused me/made me go "awww"....I have to say, given all I've heard, there were a lot more guys at this convention than I expected!   Though still a vast minority of course...:p

Then after lunch (during which we chatted with some other fans in the courtyard and also saw Richard passing by with some Starbucks--we asked him where the nearest one was, lol, and he replied) at 3:15 pm was Richard Speight, Jr (The Trickster/Gabriel)'s panel, during which I learned for one thing that his last name does not in fact have an "r" in it as I've always thought. :p  I enjoyed his panel a lot as well, like Matt he was super funny and friendly/enthusiastic about the fans...

"You can't say "Cas" without 'ass'"

(On having breakfast with Mark the day after he filmed his death scene^)

We skipped most of Brock's panel that day (see Sunday), so the last main even that day was the Autograph session with Matt, Traci, and Richard, which was nice (they had time to personalize with names at the very least). I asked Richard about his interest in the Civil War since he had mentioned having one during his panel (since I'm a huge history buff), and he said it had to do with growing up in Nashville. He was wearing a little pin that said "Bringing Sexy Back", lol. Later that night after dinner I actually happened to ride in the same elevator as him! He had been on his way to the Cocktail Party thing for people with Gold tickets. I went to bed early though, since that afternoon I had caved and gotten a duo Jared/Misha photo op (originally I thought I'd be too ~cool and cheap for that, but then I was worried I'd regret it, etc, and in the end I am glad I did it), which was in the morning Sunday.

For Sunday with Jared and Misha's panels, see my next post! :)
