sherrilina: (Cesare/Lucrezia "My Love" (The Borgias))
On this tragic date last year, the series finale of The Borgias was released on Showtime's videoplayer. ;_; I can't believe it's already been a year since we had the last new material from The Borgias (Jordan's awful fanfiction doesn't count), and the fandom came to a close. Watching GoT especially makes me miss this superior show.

In any case, I still haven't formally posted my reactions/thoughts on the last two episodes of the show, so I think I will mark this anniversary with those:

You know where the scandal is. )

Let us all have a moment of silence in memory of this wonderful show, RIP. Also let's start a prayer circle that François will get another project and return to our screens soon. I think I might need to do a full rewatch soon, since it's all on Netflix streaming now. Fittingly enough, I am in the middle of finally reading Christopher Hibbert's The Borgias and Their Enemies: 1431-1519 at this time, which is also making me miss the show. Like I just read past the part where it discusses how Cardinal Sassypants Sforza made an alliance with Rodrigo in exchange for the position of Vice Chancellor. How I wish I had his sass and epic expressions still in my life. I'm also feeling nostalgic about [ profile] cesare_lucrezia, so here is my first post there, a discussion about when people started shipping C/L and if anyone thought they would actually ~go there. Pretty funny reading in retrospect, knowing that they did indeed do so! ;)

+ Speaking of GoT, there's not really much to say about 4x09 except that it was even more fucking boring than I expected...

We should have stayed in that cave. )

RME too at what HBO submitted to the Emmys for GoT, particularly in terms of the actors nominated--Kit and Nikolaj but no Alfie, who was frankly the only actor who deserved any recognition? I sincerely hope they don't get any nods outside technical ones, that is all they deserve, and that they have ever deserved (but especially now after such a flop season). Whereas The Borgias deserved more. The nomination for prosthetics next epp though excites me--it must be LS, surely?!

sherrilina: (Eric (True Blood))
Well True Blood is back, and looking up from last season so far at least! The premiere, minus the cheesy beginning, wasn't so bad, a step up from last season's premiere to be sure, and then the second epp (which I actually saw last Monday thanks to HBOGO) was much better--can't wait now for next week's epp!  And congrats HBO for FINALLY airing an episode July 4th weekend.  (Happy Fourth to everyone btw!) My brief thoughts below...

TB 4x01:

We'll stay five minutes. Ten if they've got drinks. )

TB 4x02:

Did I miss something? Are we girls now? Did we join a book club and read some queer chick-lit memoir, so now we're bonded together by estrogen or sisterhood or some other feminist drivel? )

Speaking of HBO, as I said in my last post I watched all of season 1 of Game of Thrones via HBOGO the week I got back from Europe, and here is me finally getting around to jotting down my thoughts (spoilers for s1):

He was no dragon. Fire cannot kill a dragon. )

Since watching GoT, I've also rekindled my love for the Kushiel's Legacy series by Jacqueline Carey, which GoT reminded me a lot of actually--for all those who love GoT, I HIGHLY recommend reading these books!  Deadly palace court intrigue (including a "game of thrones"--this phrase is even used at least once or twice in the first book as I noticed while re-reading), mysteries about the past to be slowly uncovered/revealed, action and adventure, an epic, well-told love story, a complex and grey villain, an unforgettable cast of characters that you will love (I basically wanted to cry in the last book when I had to say goodbye to these characters forever, I loved and enjoyed them so much), this series has it all, and many elements that are found in GoT as well (including some explicit eroticism, but nothing really gratuitous since the protagonist is a courtesan).  I've basically spent the last few days re-reading the first book, Kushiel's Dart, and being gripped and unable to put it down despite knowing exactly what is going to happen b/c I've read it at least 3 other times...;) /obligatory favorite series pimp

sherrilina: (Cesare/Lucrezia (The Borgias))
So as anyone who follows me on Tumblr has probably noticed already, I have a shiny new fandom obsession/favorite TV show: Showtime's The Borgias!  :D  I  had been ridiculously excited for this show since seeing the trailer last January, so naturally when I heard that the premiere had been leaked early I had to watch it (as I finally managed to do the Monday before last, March 21).  It not only failed to disappoint, but quite exceeded my already high expectations! :D  I am now already completely obsessed/in love with this show, and I can't wait until it premieres "officially" and we can get the next episode!  <3333 (The promos and pics and clips from 1x03 are already killing me).

Likewise while I was already shipping Cesare/Lucrezia from the trailer and shippy promo pics alone, after this episode they are my new favorite pairing (and definitely favorite incest-ship, lol).  They have so much chemistry and smoldering UST (especially from Cesare's end), but at the same time they are so close and sweet and tender with each other, so protective and affectionate and devoted, they have both fluffy moments and plenty of angst, and have the whole "forbidden/doomed love" thing going for them since they are siblings--it's like the best of all kinds of ships rolled into one beautiful pairing!  ♥

I love them so much that, along with [ profile] lucyskyx, I've begun an LJ comm for them (my first ever!), which I encourage any of you who enjoy this goodbadwrong pairing (whether from the premiere or just the trailers, lol) to join, if you haven't already! :) (Banner by [ profile] blue_emotion)

[ profile] cesare_lucrezia [ profile] cesare_lucrezia [ profile] cesare_lucrezia

It's going pretty well so far, we already have over 100 members (even though the show has yet to officially air, lol), I'm very excited about it all! :)  I also finally cracked and bought myself extra userpics since I was out of space and I *needed* to have an icon of these two. ;)  Anyway, more specific/spoilery thoughts on the show and its premiere (1x01-1x02):

If anything happened to her...I’d die. )

Seriously, you ALL need to watch this show, I have NEVER fallen for a show so much after just one episode, it's definitely the best premiere/pilot I've ever seen (a much stronger start than The Tudors to be sure!).  I just want to draw hearts around this premiere/show, it gives me a goofy grin on my face just thinking about it...if it keeps it up (and all signs indicate it will), it had BETTER get a shit-ton of Emmy nominations and awards, or there is no justice in this world (especially since it's not only amazing, but more of the type of show the Emmy's nominates from).  Right now it's looking like it's going to be Best Drama material for sure.  There's a reason why this show already has an "army of stans" as one commenter on [ profile] ohnotheydidnt put it (before promptly watching and declaring herself a complete stan as well)! ;)

sherrilina: (Chuck/Blair (Gossip Girl))
[ profile] francy_m79  mentioned doing this today on BF, and decided it might be something fun to think about and quickly post here...

In this list I'm going to leave out some old children's shows I think, or it'd be too hard, though I do want to send some shout-outs to "Arthur" (which pwns Merlin any day in terms of character development and continuity!), "Sabrina," "Clarissa Explains it All," and "So Weird"!  I'm also leaving out shows I've only seen like an episode or 2 of randomly on TV...

I watch too much TV these days... )

Let me know if there's anything big I forgot that you know I watch, and feel free to pimp shows you think I should add to my last list here...;)

And on a random note, I have the strangest urge to watch an episode of GG right now, lol....maybe I will, one less episode to catch up on at Christmas!

sherrilina: (Mary Tudor (The Tudors))
I posted about Doctor Who, but I forgot to mention that I also recently finished The Tudors before starting to watch DW in earnest! :) Upon finishing Bones season 5 last month, I began to slowly work my way through the 4th and final season of The Tudors, and I finally finished about a week or so ago.  Here are my spoilery thoughts on the finale and the season on a whole...

Death of a Monarchy )

While I'll miss this show, it's also good for me that it has now ended, since that's one less show off my already too-long list of shows I watch now.  As it is, The Tudors has already been replaced in my spring lineup by Doctor Who...;)
sherrilina: (Mary Tudor (The Tudors))
While I realize that by now season 4 of “The Tudors” has begun airing, and the first two episodes have been available for a while anyway, I still have been meaning to post about my thoughts of season 3, since over my vacation a few weeks ago I finally finished re-watching/watching it! While it comes nowhere near season 2 in quality and epic scale, I still ended up enjoying it, liking it better than the first time I watched episodes 1-6, and I liked episodes 7 and 8 as well. That being said, I have a some more specific thoughts about the season…

Season 3 Spoilers Ahoy! )

Now I'll have to see if I have time to watch season 4 live, or if I'll just have to wait to catch up over the summer....

Meme snagged from [ profile] opheliahyde :

List the first ten TV series that come to mind. Your friends will comment with the character from each series that they think you  like most.

1. True Blood
2.  Merlin
3. Moonlight
4. Angel
5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
6. Gossip Girl
7. Veronica Mars
8. The Tudors
9. Being Human
10. Bones

Several of these shows would be pretty easy to guess, I'd think....

sherrilina: (Arthur and Morgaine (Mists of Avalon))

Well here I am posting again, but I had to after seeing this bit of TV news...which as I look at the date on the article is really old news....but it's new to me!

It seems that now instead of vampires the big thing is King Arthur--first the BBC did Merlin, and now Showtime and the BBC (again) are partnering up to do a *new* "modern" retelling of the Arthurian legend, supposedly "historically accurate" like the Tudors (uh-huh....:p), called "Camelot," written by Hirst and the other producers of the Tudors!  xD

I'm really excited, since I like Hirst's writing in general, and since Arthurian legend is another of my obsessions I'm interested of course in what the show will be like--I hope it starts with Arthur's birth and shows the early stuff, and I hope my girl Morgan le Fay is well-written (Hirst does seem to like to give more sympathetic-than-usual portrayals of historically maligned figures like Anne Boleyn or Mary Tudor), and not used too much for sex, as I fear she may be, Showtime being Showtime....

But yeah, another TV show to add to my list, and to perhaps replace "The Tudors" after season 4! :)

sherrilina: (Lucrecia (Águila Roja))

Wow, I haven't posted here in a while before the other day, when I had to vent....things have been really busy!  Actually things are still really busy, and I really shouldn't be posting here right now, but I'm in the mood...:p

Anyway lots of things to say--first of all, I have discovered a new TV show and addiction, "Aguila Roja"--a Spanish TV show that just started a few months ago about a teacher in the "17th century" (a really inaccurate 17th century though, that makes "The Tudors" look like the history channel, lol) who, upon the murder of his wife by a secret organization that is trying to kill the king to take power, converts into 'Aguila Roja' (Red Hawk in English), a ninja who investigates the murderers of his wife while also helping the helpless and poor--it's like Robin Hood and Batman (secret identiry and all that) combined, but with a ninja costume instead, and it's totally cracktastic and awesome! :p  In some of its aspects it actually reminds me a lot of "Merlin" too, which is another plus!  You can get a sense of its cracktastic glory in these pictures:

Ninjas and 17th century pleather.... )

In the latter pic you can see another reason why I like this show--the protagonist is quite the sexy hottie! ;)

Also "The Tudors" season 3 finally began, and while I was a little bored with the first epp, the second episode I enjoyed quite a bit, and think the season could be a good one even if storywise it could never live up to the greatness of season 2--still haven't seen it past episode 2 though, I'll have to catch up this summer....

Very mild Tudors season 3 spoilers for 3.01 and 3.02 and history!spoiler speculation )

And here's the rest, so I don't take up too much space....

The rest: La buena nueva, The Host Spanish!Style, GG, and Bones )

Sorry for the long post, I wanted to catch up....
sherrilina: (Mary Tudor (The Tudors))

Since I never finished posting my Tudors season 2 episode commentaries/reactions, here's mine for episode 2.05--one of the best episodes of the season, a definite high point, in which we sadly say goodbye to Jeremy Northam/Sir Thomas More for good (he will be missed next season!).  This is also the episode in which the almost slashy H/M-ness began....:p

Epp 2.05 spoilers:

I LOVE him.....but I HATE him too! My hate is equal to my love.... )

I'll get the rest up when I have a chance, probably not too soon....I have to type them up first since I wrote them on paper while watching!
sherrilina: (Mary Tudor (The Tudors))
I now continue my commentaries for season 2 of the Tudors with my reactions to the fourth episode, in which we see the beginning of the end for poor Sir Thomas More....

Spoiler warning for episode 4, of course.....

Insert witty, clever, and deep Sir Thomas More quote here )
sherrilina: (Mary Tudor (The Tudors))
Even more drama and intrigue in this next episode of the Tudors, which is one of my favorites, especially since in it we get to see my girl MARY at last! :D

Even if Anne's coronation procession is a big disappointment to me.....

Here's my running commentary for episode 3--spoilers obviously:

I know of no other queen of England but my mother.... )
sherrilina: (Catherine of Aragon)
Well yesterday I finally finished season 2 of The Tudors, and what a ride that was!  As I said before, it's definitely better than last season, though it still missed out on a lot of excellent, HISTORICALLY angsty and dramatic potential, and I have a few pet peeves about how they did certain things.  But in general the plot was a lot more exciting and tighter, with fewer random and boring subplots unrelated to the main events, less gratuitous and random sex, and better performances from all--a lot of the actors grew on me and gave truly knockout performances, especially Natalie Dormer (whom I once thought was creepy, but loved by the end), Jeremy Northam, and James Frain (which given that he plays Cromwell, a guy I don't like historically, just shows how good he was!).  Even JRM seemed a little better to me.....the only actor on the show that I really disliked was Hans Matheson playing stupid Cramner.

Starting with the second episode, I began to write running commentaries of the episodes as I watched of my thoughts and reactions to each scene/moment, rather than formal reviews.  Without further ado, here are my running commentaries for episode 2, with a few comments on episode 1.  Spoilers obviously!

sherrilina: (Mary Tudor (The Tudors))
So I finally got my hands on season 2 of the Tudors, and have been watching it and really enjoying it so far--it's a definite improvement over season 1.....though I'll post my running commentaries on the epps I've watched so far except for epp 1 later.

All I want to say now is that Showtime is corrupting my mind, making me want to slash Henry VIII/Thomas More......make it stop! :p

If you want a taste of the slash vibes between these two, just watch the clip at the beginning of this vid....or hell, watch the whole vid, I now realize.....

Since More is my hero, and one of the purest souls in history, this is quite disturbing for me.....;)

In other news, I have a tricky spyware/virusy thing on this computer which is preventing me from uploading a Snape/Lily vid I just finished, as well as other fandom pursuits.....*sigh*
